The reason why I think a quick guide is a good idea is because the articles being linked to really aren't results-oritented. They are long, drawn out, and explain everything when all that is usually necessary is a program, if it catches errors, and what were the temps (to rule out overheating).</ins>

FordGT90Concept: Detailed Guide for RAM, GPU, and CPU?

New page

== Detailed Guide for RAM, GPU, and CPU? ==

When people have their game fully patched, no custom content, specs are good, and they still get frequent, random crashes, they most likely have hardware issues. I should have to type up a big reply to them of how to narrow down the cause so they could get it fixed but, I think it would be appropriate to add such a guide to Game Help. Basically what I tell them to do is run:
#[http://www.ocbase.com/perestroika_en/index.php?Download OCCT] to verify the CPU is good. Two hours is usually sufficient but if it lasts 4 hours without errors, it pretty much completely rules out the CPU. Note the max temperature.
#[http://downloads.guru3d.com/FurMark-1.8.2-download-2523.html FurMark] to verify the GPU is good. Half an hour is sufficient but an hour is preferred. You'll want to look for anything out of the ordinary while the furry dounut is spinning like lines across the screen, splotches appearing, or anything else that looks odd. Again, note the max temperature before closing it.
#[http://www.memtest.org/#downiso memtest86+] to verify the RAM is good. Make sure it completes 1 pass but 3 is preferred. Note how many errors and ECC errors were caught before closing it.

Of course, the actual guide would have to include step-by-step instructions for running them. Memtest is last because it is the most difficult to get started even though technically, it should probably be ran first because unverified memory can often be faulty.

It should also note that a failing motherboard can cause any of the above.

I can write all these guides (one page should probably be sufficient). Just tell me where to stick it.
