[edit] Some/All Content Not Showing Up After EP/SP Install
You have enabled custom content and restarted twice and it's still not working. This is actually a pretty common problem after installing a new expansion or stuff pack.
[edit] The Body Shop Trick
To knock your content back into working, we're going to do something called The Body Shop Trick. This trick will force the game to regenerate a new Downloads folder. This is especially helpful if a particular category of content is still not showing up - i.e. if all of your objects are not showing up, but they were working fine before you installed that expansion/stuff pack.
Please make sure you follow these instructions to the letter - where it says cut, you CUT, not COPY, etc. - if you don't do it exactly right, it simply won't work!
Here's exactly what you should do to perform the Body Shop Trick:
- 1. Open your My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\' folder. Select the Downloads folder.
- 2. Cut (ctrl-x) your Downloads folder and Paste (ctrl-v) your Downloads folder to your computer's Desktop. There should now be no folder called Downloads in your My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\ folder.
- 3. Run Body Shop. Body Shop comes with your game and is already installed. If you have never run it, you can find a shortcut to it under Start - Program Files - EA Games - The Sims 2 (or your newest EP) - The Sims 2 Body Shop. It may seem like nothing's happening as Body Shop starts to load, and it may take several minutes to finish loading fully.
- 4. When Body Shop has loaded, just close it by hitting the X in the top right corner. You just needed to run the program, not do anything in it.
- 5. Open your My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\ folder again. You will notice that there is a new Downloads folder in there, which Body Shop made when you ran it. This is what we wanted - Body Shop has generated a brand new Downloads folder.
- 6. Go to your computer's Desktop and open the Downloads folder you moved there.
- 7. Select All (ctrl-A) and Cut (ctrl-x) to take out everything in that folder.
- 8. Now go into the newly-made My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads folder and Paste your custom content files back into it.
- 9. Delete the now-empty old Downloads folder that is on your desktop.
- 10. Load the game and see if your custom content is there.
[edit] Does it work now?
- Once the game has loaded, check and see whether your custom content is showing up now.
- Does it work now?
No, some or all of my custom content is still not showing up. |
