It's important that you replace the objects.package from the most recently released expansion or stuff pack, if any, that you have installed. This is not the most recently-installed one but the newest one in stores - i.e. if you got University after Pets, you would still use the Pets files.

If you take a look at these folders you will see that there are files with names such as objects01 and Sims01 in there. The easiest thing to do would be to replace all of these with their fresh versions from the install discs, rather than trying to figure out which one is corrupted. The replacement files are all located alongside the objects.package files, in the compressed.zip file on the relevant disc.

Corrupted Objects.package

Problem

  • Game icons are blank
  • Maxis sims/characters are invisible
  • Textures are corrupted
  • Sims/characters have blank faces
  • Textures for game objects have gone white with black text and red lines

Cause

The objects.package file may be corrupted.

The objects.package file is a game data file containing information including icons, game objects, some characters and skins. There is an objects.package file for each expansion pack and each stuff pack too.

If you notice that icons are blank, Maxis characters are invisible, textures are corrupted or any characters have blank faces, the chances are your objects.package file has become corrupted.

There are some bugs (the remote control car, Mrs. Crumplebottom being bitten by a vampire, etc.) that can corrupt that file; although the game patches have fixed many of these problems.

Solution

If any of the above problems is happening to you, you need to replace the corrupted file for a fresh copy, taken from your game discs.

Extract from Compressed.zip

The objects.package file is on your game CD/DVD, usually in a file called compressed.zip.
Note: if you have the Basegame DVD version, the objects.package file may not be in a compressed file. It could be in the TSData\Res\Objects folder.

  • Base game - CD #2 (or DVD if you have the DVD version)
  • University - CD #1
  • Nightlife - CD #2
  • Open For Business - CD #1 (the only CD)
  • Family Fun Stuff - CD #1 (the only CD)
  • Glamour Life Stuff - CD #1 (the only CD)
  • Pets - CD #1 (or DVD if you have the DVD version)
  • Seasons - CD #1 (the only CD, or DVD if you have the DVD version)
  • Celebration Stuff - CD #1 (the only CD, or DVD if you have the DVD version)
  • H&M Stuff - CD #1 (the only CD, or DVD if you have the DVD version)
  • Bon Voyage - CD #1 (the only CD, or DVD if you have the DVD version)
  • Teen Style Stuff - CD #1 (the only CD, or DVD if you have the DVD version)
  • Freetime - CD #1 (the only CD, or DVD if you have the DVD version)
  • Ikea Stuff - CD #1 (the only CD, or DVD if you have the DVD version)
  • Kitchen And Bathroom Stuff - CD #1 (the only CD, or DVD if you have the DVD version)
  • Apartment Life - DVD #1 (the only DVD)

You need to open compressed.zip with a program that can handle zip files (see Game Help:ZIP for information on that). From that compressed.zip file, you'll extract the objects.package file to replace the one on your computer.

Replace Objects.package

Note: It is important that you replace the objects.package for the game version that you run from. This is not necessarily the latest EP or SP that you installed. It is the game for which you need the CD/ DVD in your player when you run, or the one your startup icon/ launcher icon points to. It can be confusing which game is the latest version, but in general if you have any EP newer than Pets, you will run from that EP. If you have any EP older than Pets, you may run from your latest SP. If in doubt, replace the objects.package files from your latest SP as well as your latest EP.

To replace the objects.package file, put the file copied from the disc in the location which is appropriate for you:

If the game you run from is...

  • Base Game - Copy the file from the CD or DVD to Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\Objects
  • University - Copy the file from the CD or DVD to Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 University\TSData\Res\Objects
  • Nightlife - Copy the file from the CD or DVD to Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 Nightlife\TSData\Res\Objects
  • Open for Business - Copy the file from the CD or DVD to Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 Open for Business\TSData\Res\Objects
  • Pets - Copy the file from the CD or DVD to Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 Pets\TSData\Res\Objects
  • Seasons - Copy the file from the CD or DVD to Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 Seasons\TSData\Res\Objects
  • Glamour Life Stuff - Copy the file from the CD or DVD to Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 Glamour Life Stuff\TSData\Res\Objects
  • Family Fun Stuff - Copy the file from the CD or DVD to Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 Family Fun Stuff\TSData\Res\Objects
  • Celebration Stuff - Copy the file from the CD or DVD to Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 Celebration Stuff\TSData\Res\Objects
  • H&M Stuff - Copy the file from the CD or DVD to Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 H&M Fashion Stuff \TSData\Res\Objects
  • Bon Voyage - Copy the file from the CD or DVD to Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 Bon Voyage \TSData\Res\Objects

Teen Style Stuff - Copy the file from the CD or DVD to Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 Teen Style Stuff \TSData\Res\Objects

  • Freetime - Copy the file from the CD or DVD to Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 Freetime \TSData\Res\Objects
  • Ikea Stuff - Copy the file from the CD or DVD to Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 Ikea Stuff \TSData\Res\Objects
  • Kitchen And Bathroom Stuff - Copy the file from the CD or DVD to Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 Kitchen and Bathroom Interior Design Stuff \TSData\Res\Objects
  • Apartment Life - Copy the file from the DVD to Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 Apartment Life \TSData\Res\Objects

What can I do if that doesn't work?

There are other files which contain object and skin data, too. They are located in:

  • Base game - Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2\TS Data\Res\Sims 3D
  • University - Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 University\TS Data\Res\3D
  • Nightlife - Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 Nightlife\TS Data\Res\3D
  • Open For Business - Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 Open for Business\TS Data\Res\ 3D
  • Family Fun Stuff - Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 Family Fun Stuff\TS Data\Res\ 3D
  • Glamour Life Stuff - Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 Glamour Life Stuff\TS Data\Res\3D
  • Pets - Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 Pets\TS Data\Res\3D
  • Seasons - Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 Seasons\TS Data\Res\3D
  • Celebration Stuff - Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 Celebration Stuff\TS Data\Res\3D
  • H&M Stuff - Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 H&M Fashion Stuff\TS Data\Res\3D
  • Bon Voyage - Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 Bon Voyage\TS Data\Res\3D
  • Teen Style Stuff - Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 Teen Style Stuff\TS Data\Res\3D
  • Freetime - Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 Freetime\TS Data\Res\3D
  • Ikea Stuff - Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 Ikea Stuff\TS Data\Res\3D
  • Kitchen And Bathroom Stuff - Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 Kitchen and Bathroom Interior Design Stuff\TS Data\Res\3D
  • Apartment Life - Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 Apartment Life\TS Data\Res\3D

Please see the instructions above for details on extracting these files.

If you are still having problems in game after completing these steps, try reinstalling your latest EP and SP.

Other Information

If you have patched the game you will need to apply the patch again as the patches also update the objects.package files and the 3D files.
