[edit] Causes
For some inexplicable reasons custom content in Sims 3 likes to play hide-and-seek. It is a good practice and certainly a good habit to cultivate to do a backup and even to do frequent backups. Links to our FAQs on Backups and User Folders can be found in the See Also section below.
So, let's try to restore a backup copy of your custom content by carrying out the actions below.
[edit] Actions
[edit] step 1
Rename affected folders Rename the "DCCache" folder to "DCCache Old", or depending on what content-type you're having problems with, rename the following folders as needed:
- .Sims3Pack
- DCCache
- Library
- SavedSims
- Installed Worlds
- .package
- Mods
- .sim
- SavedSims
[edit] step 2
Remove the 4 caches and thumbnails as shown in Delete Cache and/or thumbnail files FAQ.
[edit] step 3
Restore the renamed folders, from your backup location to the user folders location in Documents by copying and pasting the folders you had renamed in step 1
[edit] step 4
After we've done that, load a NEW game.
- Does the content now show up in a new game?
- You can Quit without saving now.
If when loading a NEW game, the content shows up, try next on one of your save games.
- Does the content now show up in your save game?
[edit] Results
Did you find it? Fabulous!
Doesn't show up in either a saved game or new game after restoring from backup? Go to Next Step.
[edit] Next Step
Restoring backup has no effects. Let's try a reinstall of the content.
