You can recover sims3packs that you have installed very easily. This is useful for when you want to put CC back into you game after doing a game reinstall because you do not have to redownload all your sims3packs and install them with the Launcher.

While this process is fairly painless, it is written assuming you made a backup of your user files somewhere. If you do not have a backup of your user files (the ones located in My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3) then you cannot recover sims3packs using this method. Instead you will unfortunately have to redownload your sims3packs and install via the launcher.

[edit] Locate Your Backup

Most guides here on ModTheSims Wiki advise you to make a backup of your user files by renaming a preexisting My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 to The Sims 3 Backup. If you saved your backup else where, then locate it.

[edit] Copy the DCCache

The DCCache contains all installed Custom Content/Exchange/Store items that you installed through the Launcher.

There are 3 different file types in this folder:

  • *.dbc: All third party content
  • *.ebc: Store content
  • missingdeps.idx: A cache file generated by the game.

To restore your sims3packs, simply copy the .dbc and .ebc files from your backup over into the DCCache folder located in your new set of user files. You do not need the missingdeps.idx file.

[edit] Test!

Run the Launcher and check under your Installed Content to make sure that your sims3packs were restored successfully.

[edit] Custom Lots and Worlds

Notice in the beginning we told you that most sims3pack content can be restored from a backup. The only things that cannot be copied over are installed worlds. The lots/worlds will show up in the Launcher as installed but they actually will not show up in game.

  • Go to the Lots tab and hit select all. This will select all the lots and worlds installed.
  • Uninstall them all because they are useless to have as they will not work.
  • You will need to go back and download and reinstall all your custom worlds and lots.
