Used this template on the TXTM-talk subpages.

OK, still don't know how to add the stuff from the boxes of each page to a (still not working) general news-collecting infobox on the TXMT:Talk page... I found out that "|" can either mean "this is code, don't display" or "display this to seperate text" but I'm still unsure how to make sure that it means the one or another version. As long as I can't find a page listing the code-stuff I won't be able to get it working because I don't know what this means at all and the "try and error" method would take ages... completely helpless! Khaibit

IMPORTANT: quoting Xanathon "If content isn't comprehensible ask about it on the corresponding discussion page." (Bad me posted on the SimPe forum not understandable stuff about the WIKI! Bad Khaibit, using SIMPEFORUM for WIKI stuff!!!)

So shall I really post on every Wiki-site about SimPe content "This is too technical for average modders, please more understandable - and BTW, read this:

"I'd just like to point out that the new Wiki still needs lots of improvements to become a database that helps as many as possible users out instead of being a place where only people with the required programming knowledge can find infos and help.

Of course the Content List, the Tutorial listing of the build section and other improvements are already great and first steps to get a Wiki that is as efficient as it can be but that's not enough yet!

I know it is difficult to think of things which are just clear to you but please, those of you who can understand the listed "tech stuff" and even have some informations to add: don't forget to think of beginning or average modders who would like to use the Wiki as a database, too!

For you it isn't a problem at all to "translate" the list full of programming language entries into information that is also understandable without being able to program - but nevertheless being able to create CC for The Sims 2.

Wikipedia is a database too, offering information to everyone without extraordinary skills being required to access this knowledge - so why does this principle still not work for the Wiki?

I don't only appeal to you because I want you to do all the work on your own while I lean back and wait for you. No, the opposite! I got involved into a project and I do my very best to offer infos even a beginning modder can already understand so no reason to dislike the Wiki, to be scared anymore. Though I cannot be helpful for the project when it's about technical programming knowledge I can help to offer complicated infos to everyone so I do. The TXMT encyclopedia will be a cross linked understandable information offering part of the Wiki that uses the Wiki features perfectly - and even more: Delphy already offered the chance to enable multi-language support also in the Wiki. Think about that, please - even if you are a native English speaker, think of the chance of offering an area where you don't struggle with language difficulties, where you can easier understand because you don't have to translate while learning, where people can translate information via cross linking easily to others, where updating is "in the flow" because nothing has to be downloaded again.

Am I the only one who thinks about the possibilities of a database for everyone? Of course I also think about the work a database like this would cause - but divided through many who *can understand* the info it's easy to find someone who can add a bit, translate a bit, help a bit.

If you're curious about the TXMT project take a look, so far only the "Talk" area is in used but everybody is welcome to take a look and feedback is appreciated."

Well, for my understanding this would be "spamming the wiki", not what my intention was to post the text above in the thread on the SimPe forum and THIS would be misplaced for me, instead of one post on the SimPe forum - but maybe I'm wrong again, don't get the principle, was really not to understand (meant appeal instead of complain) and am just too frustrated about being not understood again and again when typing English that this try to clerify isn't understood neither... *exployded*

So I am using the Wiki - Delphy and TXMT crew, could you please help me out explaining what I did wrong, where I'd have to tell (am I allowed to suggest this at all???) and shall I really start spamming sites in here telling Zip pleeeease, eh, easier pleeeease! again and again? And - will this help?

Here we can tell to the other members what we have already done, what we are going to do, what needs to be done.

Remember to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~), and possibly to start your comment with *three* tildes (i.e. Name only). To start a new discussion on a talk page, click the + link at the top of the page. Or you can append your comments to this page clicking on the "Edit" link, on the top-right.

My first tasks will be:

1) Study the Wiki format :P

2) Find a suitable layout for all our pages

3) Create a basic page structure where the members can put the result of their work.

And my first tasks will be:

1) Stop struggling with the Wiki features *doh!* and try my very best to write understandable English

2) Continuing TXMT-parameter understanding (use/ in game behaviour/ whatever else is required)

3) Re-write the intro analogy (pixelhate's feedback and ideas are welcome =) )

4) Thinking about a way to translate everything (including cross linking) as the Wiki is "English only" area
...if succesful write the analogy again in German ;)
*thinking* Front Page or else for preparing HTML sites? Would be a nice download-feature, too (offline browsing the encyclopedia, no further webspace required) and not too complicated to copy the spreadsheed- data... Opinions?

Numenor

As for the translation, this can be manually done, by creating "mirror-pages" (for instance: ...\TXMT will be ...\TXMT-de) and then translating each page (and editing all the links embedded in it). It seems a huge work, also because "someone" :) should keep track of the changes in each English page and edit the German pages accordingly. The same apply to the HTML version: per se, it's a good idea, but it will never be as updated as the actual wiki pages, unless that "someone" continuously verifies the wiki pages and edit the HTML version accordingly.

PS: we should also check if *this* wiki can contain non-English pages. I don't know.

Numenor 08:50, 15 November 2006 (EST)

Yes, it can contain non-English pages. I can setup seperate namespaces or a subdomain similar to Wikipedia (ie the en.wikipedia, de.wikipedia etc). Delphy 09:15, 15 November 2006 (EST)

Khaibit

Cool! So the language support can be solved within the Wiki (hehehe) and we can have a French and German translation - someone else interested? Spanish or whatever else? (@ Numenor: it's just easier to follow the content when you don't have to translate it at once but you immediately understand the words and meaning - and that's why even an Italian translation for SimPe was written ;) :P )

Mirror-pages are great and definately easier than updating a whole html-folder - though as soon as the site exists it's just a case of copy&paste. I don't know yet if I'll start it for myself but in this case I can offer the html version which I'll update with copy&paste whenever it's required... maybe I'll upload it to www.simforum.de *muahahahar* (serious: a thread which informs tutorial-searching ones at MTS2 might be helpful for them to find the TXMT stuff in here and of course it would make sense if Numenor is the one who starts this thread (your name is a kind of 'quality-sign' =) )

OK, I completely mixed this site up when trying to add a News-infobox (created the page [[1]] so if someone can fix it, please?) Took a look at Delphy's User-pic template and Patul's tutorial infobox but the stuff is too "programatic" (play on words, at least in German it works... nevertheless understanding required - still frustrated) to me :D

So here's the stuff which should appear in the infobox on top:

  • Suitable layer for all our pages still needed
  • "News flash" addiction in progress

(see other stuff on the other sites, MaterialTypes and Introduction-Analogy)

As you didn't give feedback to my suggested news-box you can delete it if you don't want it, guys. Otherwise, I'm still unsure if collecting all the news that belong to certain sites all together in here on the main page as an "project overview-overview" would make sense or if it might confuse someone - I think it'd be a good chance to know what's going on on the one or another site when the news would be integrated into the news on this site. If you agree with this idea - is there a way to add automatical the stuff from other TXMT-News infoboxes to the main-news? Asking once more, am I understandable? Feel like I ain't at all...
