Required Expansions?

It is important to make sure that you have the right expansion packs (or stuff packs) to make the custom content work.

For example, this chair is from the Family Fun Stuff Pack:

As you can see, the shape is very different to any other furniture in the game. If you download a recolour for this chair, it will not show up unless you have the Family Fun Stuff Pack - as the 'mesh' (the 3D shape) for that chair is contained in the Family Fun Stuff files.

Likewise, this coat is from Glamour Life. It has a shape quite different to any of the other clothes. You need Glamour Life Stuff installed for any recolours of this coat to show up.

How to Know Which EPs are Required

On MTS2, content which requires expansions will have icon(s) showing which expansions or stuff packs it requires. For example, the picture below shows that University, Nightlife, and Open for Business are required.

Other sites will show what expansions may be required in a different way - either with icons similar to MTS2, or with little text tags (Uni, NL, OfB, Pets, etc.)

Sometimes, if multiple expansions are required for a set of items, the creator will clarify further in the text of the post which particular expansion/stuff packs are needed for certain items:

You can go back to the webpage where you downloaded the content from to check what EPs are required. All creators on MTS2 specify which EPs are required, and most creators on other sites will too.

However, it is always possible that the creator makes a mistake or forgets to put the requirement, so you could always send them a polite message to ask which expansions you will need.

Don't Have Required EPs?

If you do not have the required expansions or stuff packs for a certain item... well, you can't use it! The coding, mesh, textures, etc., for the item are contained within the expansion or stuff pack's files, and the item will not function without it. If you do not have University, you cannot use drums and guitars, for example. And it would be illegal for someone to extract those items to be usable without that expansion.

If you absolutely cannot live without a certain item that requires expansions, you'll need to purchase the expansion(s) or stuff packs it requires in order to use it. No other way around it.

Were EPs/SPs Required the Problem?

No, I have any required expansions or stuff packs for the content I'm trying to use.

Yes, I required expansions or stuff packs I didn't have. That was the problem.
