Hacks and hacked objects are items that change certain aspects of gameplay, for better or for worse. This listing also includes links to cheats and instructions for tricks that work similarly to hacks or hacked objects.

Hack Management

Not hacks or hacked objects, but programs and utilities to help you manage your hacks.

Aging and Time

Hacks and hacked objects relating to the aging of sims, life stages, and time on the lot.

  • Add/Subtract Aging Days: BlackSwan at MTS2
  • Aging Controller/Individual Aging: Heirloom Cake by Inge at SimLogical
  • Individual Aging: Monique at MTS2
  • "Real-Time" Clock: Merola at MTS2
  • Lot Timer (the closest thing possible to allow time to pass equally on all lots): JM Pescado at MATY
  • Time Correct When Returning Home From Community Lot: The fact that one can leave home at noon, stay on a community lot for hours, return home, and it's still noon has vexed players since the game was released. However, there's a VERY GOOD REASON it's set up like this... If Joe goes to a community lot and leaves his wife Carol at home on the lot, and Joe's gone for four days (as is often possible especially with community sleep hacks), what does Carol do while he's gone? What if Carol's pregnant? What if Carol's almost an elder? What if she's about to get a promotion? What if they have kids - do they grow up while he's gone? One can use the InSIMenator to change the day of the week, and OfB includes a cheat to change the hour of the day, so you can simulate a return home at the correct time with that, but actually making it the "correct" time when you return home from a community lot is extremely unlikely/impossible as a hack.


Building, Buying, and Lots

Hacks and hacked objects for build mode, buy mode, lots, and construction.

  • Apartments: There is no known "apartment" mod. However, one can simulate an apartment by using a set of the doors listed below (under Doors) to restrict sims from other sims' apartments.
  • Buy Clothes/Groceries From Home: Monique at ModtheSims2
  • Buy Clothes/Change Clothes/Change NPC & Townie Clothes at Home: christianlov at MTS2
  • Build More Levels/Floors: Cheat/Trick
  • Build Walls Right Up To Lot Edge: Not hackable - only Maxis could make this possible.
  • Change Lot Sizes After Building: Not possible with hack/cheat, but is doable, with the LotExpander. Make sure you back up your stuff FIRST!
  • Contents of Lot Stay When Moving Out: Stay-Things Shrub by Inge at SimLogical
  • Doors - Clothes Change (Everyday/Formal), Family-Only, Pay, Bathroom, and Student-Only: Inge at SimLogical
  • Doors - Security, Employees Only Pre-OfB, Restrict Sims from Certain Areas: Inge at SimLogical
  • Doors - Keyholder, Clothing, Gender, Visitors, Family, Sim Limit Per Room: tunaisafish at MTS2
  • Glass Elevators: (OfB) macarossi at MTS2. Pre-OfB or for a different look, you can simulate the look of glass elevators (make a convincing-looking fake one) using Numenor's Wall Windows, Targa's Ascension Stairs, and some suitable walls/floors/a door.
  • Larger/Smaller Lot Sizes: Mary Lou Sims
  • Mirrored Floors: BitzyBus at TSR
  • Reflective/Shiny Floors: Reflex Sims ($$$ site, floors free in forums, registration required)
  • Residential-to-Community and Community-to-Residential Objects: Search for "community residential" on ModTheSims2 to find all objects in collections to make them buyable on all lots types.
  • Stackable Open for Business Stages: Not possible with a hack, doable with build cheats and tricks (though very limited in usefulness). See tutorial here.
  • Wall Limit Removed: Hard coded by Maxis - Not possible as a hack. However, you can use Numenor's Unlevel Walls, in addition to your normal walls, to circumvent it.

This content is focused on items and hacks relating to jobs, careers, finances, business (including Open for Business-specific or useful items) and money.


College and University

This content is focused on items and hacks for college, university, and young adults.

This content is focused on items and hacks relating to pregnancy, impregnation, babies, baby care, toddlers, children, sim relations and relationships, and family.

Create-a-Sim Family Limits Removed

You can use this trick to create, for example, a teen and child as parent and child, adult and teen as siblings, create a teen to live alone without killing off the parents, etc... A hack to remove the limits imposed by Create a Sim is unlikely.

  1. You must have Nightlife or any later expansions for the ageSimsCheat to work.
  2. Create the sims in Create a Sim how you want them for their ages. Before you finish the sims, switch the sims to an age that it WILL work - for adult/teen as siblings, switch the teen to adult and make them siblings. For teen/child as parent/child, switch the teen to adult with the child as their child.
  3. Finish the family and move them into a lot.
  4. When the lot has loaded, CTRL-SHIFT-C to bring up the cheat console and enter "ageSimsCheat on"
  5. Click on the sim(s) that are currently the incorrect age and age them up/down so they ARE the correct age. Relationships will stay intact.

Visiting

Tricks and hacks that allow sims to go for visits.

To Visit Residential Lots:

  1. Load the residential lot you would like your sims to visit.
  2. Call the sims you would like to visit on the phone and invite them over.
  3. Use testingcheatsenabled to make the resident sims unselectable, and make the visiting sims selectable (make sure to leave at least one sim selectable the whole time while you do this!!!).
  4. Conduct your visit as you like.
  5. When you're done, make the resident sims selectable again, deselect the visiting sims, save, and exit. Easy to do, and works just fine.

To Visit Community Lots with Toddlers:

  1. You must have Open for Business or any later expansions.
  2. CTRL-SHIFT-C to bring up the cheat console and enter "ageSimsCheat on"
  3. In live mode, click on the toddler. You'll find there's a new pie menu entry. Age them up to child.
  4. Take your family to the community lot as usual.
  5. When you get to the community lot, use the cheat again to age them back down to toddler.
  6. Conduct your visit to the community lot.
  7. Before you leave, use the cheat again to age them back up to child.
  8. Return home.
  9. Use the cheat one last time to age them back down to toddler.


Weather and Seasons

Though Maxis told us we were getting weather in the base game (and indeed left some of the coding in) it didn't pan out. However, many modders have created items that both unlock the (rather buggy) Maxis coding for rain and storms, as well as created whole new hacks to enable weather and seasons.
