Causes

Has the item been installed successfully?

Sims3Packs must be installed with The Sims 3 Launcher, simply dropping them in Downloads will not get them in game.

incompatible versions

Version Compatibility error

If you get the following status, this means that you're trying to install an item that is not compatible with your game version. Verify from Download Tab or reread the Description tab again to ensure you meet the requirements of required versions and required packs.

The find out your game versions from here Game Help:TS3 Patching Find Gameversion and match it to current versions in Game Help:Patch Table.

Other errors

If you get any errors as shown in Game Help:Launcher Issues, you need to download and install the latest EADM called Origins.

Actions

It is a good idea to take note of the file size of the .?bc files in /DCCache folder, of the before and after process, to see if the Launcher really did add the item.

step 1

If you want to install just one Sims3Pack

  • Simply double-click on the Sims3Pack. The Launcher will open and the item will automagically be installed.

To install more than one Sims3Pack at a time

  • Place the Sims3Pack files into Downloads folder in
TS3 docs path.png
  • Start the Launcher using the shortcut on your Desktop, if one shortcut for a pack's Launcher does not work, use base game's.
New Items added
  • Select the Downloads tab on left. If you have new items placed in this folder that has not yet been installed, there'll be an exclamation mark indicator.
Items being downloaded
  • If you do not see the item's image, and there is a progress bar indicating "Downloading", let it finish downloading first.
not yet installed
  • Place a check beside each CC that you want to install. (These will NOT be greyed out and the status box will be blank).
successfully installed
  • Click Install.
  • When the progress bar has reached 100%, and you get a "Success! Done!" status, click OK
  • If the install was indeed a Success, you'll see an Installed icon GCCTSU L Installed.png, if not you'll see GCCTSU L notInstalled.png.

step 2

Ensure Custom Content is Enabled

content checkbox
Installed content tab.jpg

Under the Installed Content tab, there's a check box in the corner that says "Run without custom content". Make sure that that box is unchecked!

If the box is already checked, disable it and run TS3 again. This should solve your problem.

step 3

Alternatives to the Sims3Launcher

You can use a 3rd party tool such as 3viewer if you don't like the Launcher (3viewer is a Java app, so it works both for Windows and OS X). There are various other Installers and Extractors available.

This is not a guaranteed method as some Sims3Packs do not work well when extracted and not installed via Launcher. Items that are known not to work at all, when extracted (at this writing).

  1. Worlds
  2. Patterns created in Create-A-Pattern

step 4: test

Time to test!

  1. Delete Cache and/or thumbnail files
  2. Load a NEW game.
    • Does the content now show up in a new game?
    • You can Quit without saving now.

If when loading a NEW game, the content shows up, try next on one of your save games.

  • Does the content now show up in your save game?

Results

The content is still hiding from me! ...

Next steps

Launcher not co-operating? Maybe it is due to an outdated EADM/Origins.
