Installing Sims 3 Package Files: More Info

Need more information on .package files and custom content? Here's some links that may help you.

Sims 3 Custom Content Basics

Our guide on custom content in general: what info you need to know, how to extract from zip/rar/7z files, etc.:

Sims and Sims3packs

In addition to .package files, you may run across files in the .sim or .sims3pack file format. Installing those is done a little bit differently from .package files:

Delete Cache Files

It can be helpful to delete your cache files, so the game regenerates fresh ones, whenever you've added or removed custom content:

d3dx9_31.dll?

With the old framework, in Program Files, you needed a d3dx9_31.dll to make hacks work. With the new way post-1.12 putting files in Documents, the d3dx9_31.dll is no longer needed whatsoever, for anything!

Removing Custom Content

Having problems with some custom content you're using, or just want to remove some items you no longer need?

Package File Lag

Is your game slow to load, or very slow and laggy when playing after installing some .package file custom content? There's a solution for that!

Sims 2 for Sims 3?

Can custom content for The Sims 2 be used in The Sims 3? After all, they both use .package files, right? (Short answer: No.) See this link for more details:
