Overview

Many issues have been raised involving a Sims Personal Inventory as well as the Family Inventory found under the Buy Mode.   Some of these have been addressed in Patches/Updates from EA and supposedly fixed.   A list of these fixes can be found in the Patch Notes section.   This Guide seeks to address those issues relating to Base Game/Default Items and Interactions with one or both Inventories.   Cloned Objects or other Non Default Item issues with Inventories should be directed to the Creator of that Item.

While users may experience one or more of the issues listed below; they may or may not be related, the cause of your issues may or may not affect other users in the same fashion, some may experience all of them at one point or another while others may not ever see or experience them.   This is not, by any means, a complete list of issues with inventories, rather an ongoing investigation and documentation of known bugs, glitches, and errors as well as known and potential fixes and workarounds for them.

Issues with Inventory

During gameplay, have you experienced one or more of the following:

  • Sim(s) Cant Fish from one or more fishing areas
  • Sim(s) Cant Buy/Sell items at the grocery store
  • Sim(s) Cant Use the fridge
  • Sim(s) Cant seem to feed Omni Plants
  • The Hand tool gets stuck when retrieving an item from Personal Inventory
  • Hand tool gets stuck when retrieving an item from the Family Inventory while in Buy Mode
  • Items become stuck in inventory and can't be removed such as spoiled food, dishes, etc.
  • Items placed in inventory disappear for no reason such as relics, gems, etc

Known Causes

  • Seeds in the affected Sim(s) inventory can prevent them from fishing, using the Grocery Store, and using the Fridge.
  • Sims having multiple items and/or large quantities of items in their Personal Inventory can have a difficult time feeding Omni Plants
  • Undocumented and, more importantly, Unfixed EA Bugs/Glitches still affect gameplay in regards to Inventories
  • Custom Content in the form of One or more Mod/Hack conflicts, either with each other or with your game version
  • If you are using EA Story Progression and switch active families, you run the risk of losing items in inventories since EA runs
a process every day at 3am that wipes out all inactive sim inventory.  Supposed to be fixed with Patch 1.5/1.6.  While the inventory
is no longer immediately cleaned out, anytime something is removed from the inventory, such as a book, any attempt to put it back
    results in the item disappearing.

Known Solutions or WorkArounds

  • Sim(s) that suddenly cant Fish, use the Grocery Store, or use the Fridge have been rectified by disposing of any/all seeds in their Personal Inventory.
  • Clearing the Hand Tool, with an item stuck, is usually corrected by exiting the game and restarting, while others claimed they also had to Delete the Cache Files
  • Disable EA Story Progression in Options, there is also a workaround.   Another option would be to use another Story Progression Mod.
  • To resolve Mod/Hack conflicts
