Hello, guys. I’ve seen many people complaining about EA Sub-neighborhoods in The Sims 3. They’re problematic, too big etc. This guide will show you how to make your world function as a Sub-Neighborhood (Vacation/University/Future/Downtown/Suburb). Please, forgive me for my bad English. Thanks.

Note: There are some threads available in this category, but almost all of them are outdated.

[edit] You will need:

S3PE

SuperCAW (mentioned in the alternative method)

Resources for specific world types:

(Download all of these then extract)

For Vacation:

France: www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/35327_120423130751France.zip
China: www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/35328_120423130827China.zip
Egypt: www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/35329_120423130855Egypt.zip

Accessible: From Edit Town/Through the Plan Trip panel through the in-game computer/phone.

Note: You can select only one at once. E.G. If you select France, french music will play in map view and the random generated NPCs will have french names, so it’s incompatible with China or Egypt.

For Downtown:

Accessible: From the main menu.

For University:

Accessible: From Edit Town/Enroll in university using the in-game computer/phone

For Future:

Accessible: From Edit Town/Using the Time Portal

Also, if you want you can change the INI files. E.G. the sky color for the dystopian future, if you wish. Nothing bad will happen, as I know. But if you bother with the world type resource, things can go wrong. WARNING: IF YOU DON'T PUT ALL OF THE 2 ZIP FILES' CONTENTS IN THE WORLD FILE, IT WILL CRASH!

[edit] Steps:

This is a pretty easy method. Just follow all the steps.

1.Make an ordinary world, just like all worlds (lots, decoration etc). Of course, place the specific lots mentioned below, to avoid the problems, and crashes. Note: If you don't know how to build these lots, just search them in-game, and write down all furnishings, or just copy them and place them in your world. The latter is not highly recommended because of their style. There's a high chance to the buildings not matching your world's style. And sometimes they're rather large, and it may take a pretty long time to place them.

2. Make a backup for your world, if something goes wrong.

3.Then export the world, and install it as usual.

4.Open the .world file in S3PE (the world file you installed is located in Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/InstalledWorlds), and import all the resources mentioned for your world type. If you not import every resource, the game will crash when you reach it.

5.If everything is right, you will see your world in the type you’ve set it!

Put the INI files AFTER the installment through the launcher, because when you install it, the launcher will delete the INI files. Open your world in: Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/InstalledWorlds. After that, import the INI files back again.

In case of suburban worlds, just do nothing special. Make your world as you want, export it and install it. Note: If you just drop the .world file in the InstalledWorlds folder without actual installment, the game will not see it. When you try to reach a world (e.g. a future world) without the export and install step, a serious error will pop up.

[edit] Specs for world types:

Suburban world: This flags the world as a Suburb world. Just an ordinary world with no specific changes. This came with the base game.

Specific lots: Nothing

French Vacation world: This flags the world as a French world. The world will have French Music in world view; French names, clothing and hairstyles for NPCs and spawned townies; French nationality trait for all occupants; correct icons for locale zoned lots such as Landmark tombs; a spawned NPC 'Special goods vendor'; full functionality for relic and general goods registers; French food available from the food register; all NPCs will walk to destinations instead of using vehicles; the default mode of transport for playable sims is moped instead of taxi. This came with The Sims 3 World Adventures.

Specific lots: tombs, market, academy, chinese garden, base camp, NPC residential lots

Chinese Vacation world: This flags the world as a Chinese world. The world will have Chinese Music in world view; Chinese names, clothing and hairstyles for NPCs and spawned townies; Chinese nationality trait for all occupants; correct icons for locale zoned lots such as Landmark tombs; a spawned NPC 'Special goods vendor'; full functionality for relic and general goods registers; Chinese food available from the food register; all NPCs will walk to destinations instead of using vehicles; the default mode of transport for playable sims is bicycle instead of taxi. This came with The Sims 3 World Adventures.

Specific lots: same as France.

Egyptian Vacation world: This flags the world as an Egyptian world. The world will have Egyptian Music in world view; Egyptian names, clothing and hairstyles for NPCs and spawned townies; Egyptian nationality trait for all occupants; correct icons for locale zoned lots such as Landmark tombs; a spawned NPC 'Special goods vendor'; full functionality for relic and general goods registers; Egyptian food available from the food register; all NPCs will walk to destinations instead of using vehicles; the default mode of transport for playable sims is moped instead of taxi. This came with The Sims 3 World Adventures.

Specific lots: same as the previous two.

Downtown world: This flags the world as a Downtown (City) world. The world will have random taxis driving around, and food trucks. This world type only works if you have The Sims 3 Late Night.

Specifc lots: Nothing

University world: This flags the world as an University world. This cannot be accessed through the main menu. Instead, to access this, you need to use Edit town mode, or enroll in unversity through the cellphone or the computer. The world will have the university term system. You can only play the world with your Sim through the phone/computer and enroll in university. This world type only works if you have The Sims 3 University Life.

Specific lots: university rabbit holes, fraternities, sororities, dormitories, student union, group science park, regular lots, university hangouts, arcades, java huts, nerd shops, rebel hangouts

Future world: This flags the world as a Future world. The world will have dystopian, normal and utopian look. These affects the look of the world. You can only access it with the Time Portal or Edit Town.

Specific lots: base camp, business park, gallery shop, bot emporium, bot arena, ZEPHYR station (this thread [1] will help you to make this work), regular and ownable lots for the descendants

Note: If you don't have a base camp, it's not a problem. If you have the UNI EP, you will get this Where do you want to live this term? thing. Don't mind, just move in somewhere. If you don't have the EP, I don't know what will happen.

[edit] Alternative Method

This is an other method. This is a bit more easier. But you need the 'SuperCAW' for the CAW tool to make it work.

1. Install the SuperCAW. The thread can be found here. [[2]]

2. Then, open your world in it.

3. Click on the world's name in the World Layers panel, and edit it's name and description.

4. If everything is right, you will have a 'World Type' box at the bottom. Just change to any type you desire.

5. After that, do the replacement mentioned below. And if everything is right, you will see your world in it's proper place.

Note: I would recommend to import the resources, like we did in the previous method. Not required, but I think it's good.

Of course. If you find any problems in the tutorial, just send me a PM at Mod The Sims.

[edit] Installation

For subhood worlds (vacation, university, future), you need to replace the EA defaults. Not overwrite. Make a backup for the EA worlds in case of something is wrong.

For Vacation worlds: (installation place)/The Sims 3 World Adventures/GameData/Shared/NonPackaged/Worlds.

For University worlds: (installation place)/The Sims 3 University Life/GameData/Shared/NonPackaged/Worlds.

For Future worlds: (installation place)/The Sims 3 Into The Future/GameData/Shared/NonPackaged/Worlds.

Place your world to it's proper place.

Then, rename your world to the world you’ve replaced.
