Force Error or Reset

Problem

Do you have any of the following symptoms?

Object-related:

  • A plate of food cannot be cleaned up by sims
  • A chair is stuck and cannot be deleted
  • Another type of object is stuck and cannot be deleted

Sim-related:

  • A sim's arm or hand is stuck in a certain position
  • A sim is frozen in place like a statue
  • A sim's face is stuck in a certain expression
  • A sim is still emitting sleep Zzzs but they are not asleep
  • A sim is still emitting green stink clouds but their hygiene is not low
  • A sim is still emitting bubbles after cleaning, bathing, or showering
  • A sim is emitting bubbles from their butt after swimming.
  • A sim's pregnancy is stuck - the sim has been pregnant for more than 3 days and will not give birth.
  • A sim cannot try for baby but does not appear to be pregnant, and is not a female within a few days of being an elder.

Pet-related:

  • A pet's leg or tail is stuck in a certain position
  • A pet is frozen in place like a statue
  • A pet is still emitting sleep Zzzs but they are not asleep
  • A pet is still emitting green stink clouds but their hygiene is not low
  • A pet is still emitting bubbles after being bathed
  • A pet's pregnancy is stuck - the sim has been pregnant for more than 3 days and will not give birth.
  • A pet cannot try for baby but does not appear to be pregnant, and is not a female within a few days of being an elder.

Solution

If you are experiencing any of the above, the answer is to reset that object, sim, or pet.

Method 1 - moveObjects Deletion

This method works best for stuck objects - they just go away and you can either buy a new one from the catalog, or forget it.

  • CTRL-SHIFT-C to bring up the cheat console.
  • Type moveObjects on and then press Enter.
  • Go into buy mode and use the hand tool to pick up the stuck object, sim, or pet. Press the Delete key on your keyboard to delete the offending item from your lot.

This method is SAFE to use on sims and pets - yes, it's scary to delete your sim or pet, but you can safely save, exit to Neighborhood, then re-enter the lot and your sim or pet will be as good as new, waiting by the mailbox. This may abort or force a stuck pregnancy if done to a sim or pet.

Method 2 - Force Error

This method works on stuck objects that still cannot be deleted with moveObjects and can be a quicker method for resetting a sim or pet, as you do not have to go out to the neighborhood and back in.

  • CTRL-SHIFT-C to bring up the cheat console.
  • Type boolProp testingCheatsEnabled true and then press Enter.
  • In live mode, shift-click on the stuck sim. You'll suddenly have a bunch of pie menus. Find "Force Error" and choose it.
  • You should get a popup with an error. Choose Cancel or Reset. If done to a sim or pet they'll generally "jump."
  • Bring up the cheat console again, and type boolProp testingCheatsEnabled false to turn the cheat back off (you shouldn't leave it on unless you're planning to use it and know what you're doing).

If you've done it to an object, it should now be deletable. If you've done it to a sim or pet, they should now be reset and working normally. If you were doing it to force a stuck pregnancy, on sims it's about 50/50 whether it will abort the pregnancy, or force birth. On pets, it seems to always force birth within a few sim hours of resetting.
