Do you have the required mesh?

A mesh is the skeleton of the object.

The recolor is the clothing of an object... when you dress up a skeleton, then you can see its shape. If you are installing a recolour it is important to ensure that you have the right mesh, or your items will not show up. Sometimes some meshes won't appear if you don't have at least one recolor... and definitely recolors won't appear if it has nothing to dress up.

This outfit is a recolour of a Maxis mesh:

So I do not require a seperate mesh. But the 'shape' of this dress is not already in the game - I need the mesh file to make it show up:

For this download on MTS2 the creator clearly states that a mesh is needed, and he includes a link to the web page where you can obtain the mesh.

If the mesh file is part of the creation, then the link to download that will be next to the recolours:

On other websites the creator usually specifies if you need a mesh, too:

I do not need a mesh for this Maxis sofa recolour:

But I do need a mesh for this sofa, as it is a new object and not just a recolour of something in the game:

If I download any recolours of this item, I will always need the base object- the mesh- for it to show up. If you do not have the mesh the object will not appear anywhere in the catalogs.

A mesh file usually includes the word MESH in it somewhere.

If you do not have the correct meshes for bodyshop items, then the recolours will show up as Maxis items instead. The red shirt and capri pants for this dress (for which I neglected to download the mesh):

And the standard Maxis centre-part hair shows up when I forget the mesh for a nice new hair style.

In some people's game they may see a bunny head instead of the new hairstyle:

This means you don't have the mesh, too.

  • If you forgot the mesh and saw the capri pants outfit, the Maxis hair or the bunny head, then you will need to refresh your thumbnail files when you install the mesh. Click here for details on deleting the CAS thumbnails.
