Seasons Options Missing

With each new expansion comes a new pack of bugs and glitches. If you are missing some of the new options in Seasons, here are the reasons why, and how to fix it.

Fishing Option Missing

If you cannot fish: ... then one or more of the following is happening...

Snow Options Missing

If you cannot make snowmen, have snowball fights, or make snow angels: ... then one or more of the following is happening...

Garden Club Options Missing

If you cannot click on the garden club representative when they visit your lot to begin an evaluation: ... then your problem is...

Snow X-Ray Option Missing

If you do not have the option to turn on the snow x-ray... (which lets you see beneath a heavy snow to find pet toys, the newspaper, etc.), then one of the following is the problem:

  • Your graphics card simply cannot handle the snow x-ray. Lower-powered graphics cards may not be able to handle it, and by design, Maxis has made it so if your card cannot handle it, you don't even see the option to turn it on.
  • A glitch. Some users have reported having the snow x-ray turned on initially and functioning, with a good enough graphics card, but that after turning off the option, the option disappears from the settings as if they do not have a good enough graphics card to handle it. If you get this glitch, you can re-enable the snow x-ray manually. This is ONLY for people who have lost the option for the snow x-ray, not trying to get it if you never had it.
  • First, try entering the cheat boolProp useShaders true - this may make the option show up again and allow you to turn the snow x-ray on.

If that doesn't work, you'll need to do something a little more complicated...

  • Open your My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Config folder. Find the userProps.xml file.
  • Right-click on it and choose "Open With." Select Notepad in the list to open userProps.xml in Notepad.
  • Edit-Find to bring up the find window and in it, type showXRayCursor and click Find. It will jump to the line that says: <AnyBoolean key="showXRayCursor" type="0xcba908e1">false</AnyBoolean>
  • Change that line so it reads <AnyBoolean key="showXRayCursor" type="0xcba908e1">true</AnyBoolean> - change where it says false to say true.
  • Save.
