Slowness and Lag

Problems

  • Community lots take forever to load.
  • Community lots are really slow when playing.
  • Large lots/lots with many sims are really laggy.
  • A small lot with only a couple sims has suddenly gotten slow.
  • Slow framerate, slow scrolling on lots.
  • The game is just generally laggy and slow.

Solutions

Particularly if you like to play large lots, you may notice lagging and slowness in your game, or when loading. Some of this is normal, and everyone gets a bit of lag every now and then; but if it's really bad, or if it's annoying you, there are some things you can do to avoid it.

  • Avoid big lots. It really can be as simple as that - every computer is different; work out how much your computer can reasonably handle, and don't go above that. Playing large lots when your computer can't handle it can cause both slow loading times on lots, and slowness and jerkiness when playing.
  • Be careful of high poly counts. One thing that really slows down a lot is having lots of high poly custom content. For an explanation of what polys are, see here.
  • Reduce your Custom Content. While this won't make any difference in terms of play, it will significantly reduce loading times. For tips on doing this efficiently, see here.
