Ultimate Collection FAQs

So you've just installed the new Sims 2 Ultimate Collection... and it's not working! Here are the most frequently asked questions from the forums, complete with answers:

Installing UC

RightArrow.gif Question: Do I need to uninstall normal Sims 2 before I install UC?

Answer: Yes, yes, YES, yes, and yes. And in Origin, clicking "download" means installing the game.
Remember to back up your downloads and neighbourhoods first, because otherwise they'll be deleted when you uninstall.

RightArrow.gif Question: ...I didn't uninstall normal Sims 2 before I installed UC.

Answer: UC will probably work, your regular Sims 2 will probably not.
Do not uninstall either version, as this will break both of them.
If you want to uninstall your regular game, just delete the folders in Program Files (x86)/EA Games.
If you want to uninstall UC, make sure you have all your disks, because you will need to reinstall from them after you've uninstalled UC.

RightArrow.gif Question: If I don't download and install UC, will I lose it on August 1st?

Answer: There's no reason why you would. You can normally keep Origin games in your library but not downloaded for as long as you like.

RightArrow.gif Question: Does UC come with Bodyshop?

Answer: Yes, but you have to make your own shortcut.
UC includes Bodyshop, but it doesn't make any Start menu or desktop shortcuts for it. To make a shortcut:
  1. Go to C:/Program Files (x86)/Origin Games/The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection/Fun with Pets/SP9/CSBin
  2. Right-click on TS2Bodyshop.exe and click Create Shortcut.
  3. Drag the shortcut to your desktop, or wherever you want it, and rename it if you like.

Playing UC

RightArrow.gif Question: Can I play UC without using Origin? Can I play UC in windowed mode?

Answer: Yes!
  1. Go to C:/Program Files (x86)/Origin Games/The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection/Fun with Pets/SP9/TSBin
  2. Right-click on Sims2SP9.exe and click Create Shortcut
  3. Drag the shortcut to your desktop, or wherever you want it, and rename it if you like. This shortcut will open the game without opening Origin.
  4. If you want to play in windowed mode, follow the instructions in Game Help:Windowed Mode

RightArrow.gif Question: Will my old neighbourhoods work with UC?

Answer: Yes, but it might take some work.
If you never installed Store Edition, then your neighbourhoods should work right out of the box. Just remember to delete the neighbourhoods UC creates before copying your old ones in their place.
If you have or had Store Edition installed, you'll need to add Store Edition to your UC to get your neighbourhoods working. Instructions are at SimsNetwork.

RightArrow.gif Question: I can't change my graphics options! My sims have black rectangles instead of shadows!

Answer: See this excellent guide on Leefish.

RightArrow.gif Question: No neighbourhods are showing up!

Answer: We're not exactly sure what causes this yet, but there are some suggestions here.

Custom Content

RightArrow.gif Question: How do I install CC?

Answer: Basically the same as before!
Put most things in
Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2™ Ultimate Collection/Downloads
For any mods which need to be put in the game's install folder, like catalogue reorganisers, put them in
C:/Program Files (x86)/Origin Games/The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection/Fun with Pets/SP9/...
Don't forget that for object recolours to work, you need to install CEP. The automatic installer won't work, so you'll have to follow the manual instructions.

RightArrow.gif Question: Why aren't my custom sims and lots showing up?

Answer: Clean Installer is putting them in the wrong place.
Clean Installer doesn't know about UC, so you have to tell it to install sims and lots in the Ultimate Collection folder.

You can do that for one file by:
  1. Unticking "Default installation"
  2. Opening the dropdown where it says Teleport or SavedSims
  3. Clicking Browse
  4. Selecting the Teleport or SavedSims folder in your Ultimate Collection folder

If you want Clean Installer to do this automatically every time:
  1. Open the folder where you installed Clean Installer (usually, C:/Program Files (x86)/Sims2Pack Clean Installer)
  2. Copy the file S2PCI.ini to your Desktop
  3. Open it with Notepad
  4. Change the line
    SaveGamePath=""
    to say
    SaveGamePath="C:\Users\YOURNAME\Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2™ Ultimate Collection"*
  5. Save and close Notepad
  6. Copy the file back into your Clean Installer folder, say yes you want to replace.
*This assumes that you are using Windows 7 or 8. If you are using XP or older, you probably know what filepath you need to use.

RightArrow.gif Question: Is this hack compatible with UC?

Answer: If a hack is compatible with AL or M&G, it is compatible with UC.
