Crashing after patching to 1.17 and/or installing Late Night
Issue
After patching to 1.17 series of updates and/or installing The Sims 3 Late Night expansion pack, the game crash in CAS or during gameplay or just when moving in a family.
And none of the usual tricks like
- updating drivers
- doing the suggestions in Game Help:Sims 3 Game Problem
- doing the suggestions in Game Help:Crash workarounds
has helped.
Cause
If you also have The Sims 3 Ambitions expansion pack, the most likely cause of the crashing is the haphazard placement of the new Professions and/or Community Lots introduced by this EP.
It appears that patched games without Ambitions and/or Late Night expansion packs also exhibit this behavior. So the crashes may also happen even if you do not have Ambitions and Late Night installed.
Possible Solution
Before starting a new Late Night game with the new Bridgeport town or a new post-patch game on Sunset Valley, rename The Sims 3 folders or at least move the Library folder out of there. If you rename, you don't need to remove any caches, if you move the Library folder, just Game Help:Sims 3 Delete Cache Files, to be thorough.
And when the new town has loaded, before you do anything, check the map view for gray Lots as per this thread in Discussion Sims 3 Late Night Crash Fix. If not exactly on that plot of land or address, look for any Lot that is occupied by any Ambitions RabbitHoles/Profession-related Lot. You need to bulldoze this Building and/or Lot and save the game. Games with no Ambitions installed might have some form of wall on an otherwise empty plot of gray Lot.
Any new game can use this as a "default" so you don't need to redo these steps all over again.
Still Not Working!
Still having problems after trying all of the above, or unclear on any of the above steps?
Please post a new thread in our Sims 3 Help Forums where we may help you try to troubleshoot your problem further.
Make sure to mention all the steps you had tried, or you'll be directed to these same FAQs again.
