Causes

The .package file may have been corrupted during its creation process, while being packaged up for download or might just have been badly made. There is also the possibility that the tools were developed with insufficient information as developers keep learning new things about the file formats and resources.

The Sims 3 Dashboard tool by Delphy @MTS can help with this.

  • Download
  • Unzip anywhere, Desktop would be most convenient
  • Double-click on the Sims3Dashboard.exe to start the program

This tool will

  • auto-detect your game paths if you had installed to the defaults
  • highlight any broken or conflicting .packages
  • let you select the broken .packages and fix them
  • let you select the conflicting .packages and disable them
  • let you choose which *cache.package files you want to delete from the Documents path

You should also take note of the items this tool will NOT do from the Description tab.

Actions

step 1

After you've started the program, for the first run, you need to direct it to the folder containing your .package CC. This can be done from the File menu --> Scan Folder option. Locate the /Mods folder and click OK.

step 2

When it has completed the scanning process, you may get rows in colors or if none are flagged, then you have to find the Problem CC the manual way: Game Help:TS3 Finding Problem Custom Content, which is out of the scope of this guide.

step 3

For any of the rows flagged, you can

  • fix it (for Corrupt (TXTC) in Salmon color) or
  • disable it (for everything else)

Note, though that not ALL issues with .packages have been reported or known yet, at this stage. So, there may be certain things that the Dashboard tool won't be able to fix. Which means again, use the Game Help:TS3 Finding Problem Custom Content wiki to manually locate it and remove it, until you find updates for them or decide to discard the CC.

step 4

After we've done that, delete caches and/or thumbnails before you load a NEW game.

  • Does the content now show up in a new game?
  • You can Quit without saving now.

If when loading a NEW game, the content shows up, try next on one of your save games.

  • Does the content now show up in your save game?
  • You can Quit without saving here, too.

Results

Removing corrupted and/or conflicting content makes the others show up? Fabulous!

Nada...still no custom content...Proceed.

Next Steps

Wow, tough nut to crack, huh. Specific content type do tend to require more care to get it to show up and working correctly. Let's tackle them...
