The want to be big man/woman on campus is satisfied when a sim gets their 10th best friend while they are at uni.  If the sim went to college with more than 10 best friends already, I'm told you have to lose and re-make friends.

You couldn't combine households in base game, but you can if you have ANY expansion pack.  It was a new option in Uni, but is not restricted to Uni.
